How to truly end a fight in three sentences
Keep having the same fight? A quick "sorry" usually isn't the problem. This free guide gives you three sentences that close a fight for real, so it doesn't come back next week dressed up as something else.
The big idea
Why "sorry" doesn't always end it
Most fights have two layers. On top is the topic: the dishes, the phone, being late again. Underneath is a fear, like "I don't matter to you."
When you only apologize for the topic, the fear is still there. So the fight goes quiet, then comes back about something else. Same fear, new topic.
Repair the person under the topic.
The method
Three sentences, about twenty seconds
Own it
One thing you did. Small and specific, with no "but."
Name it
What you were scared of underneath.
Bridge it
Invite them back. The solution can wait.
Here's how it sounds
"I got sharp with you when you brought up money, and that wasn't fair to you. I think I was scared you see me as careless. Can we sit together for a minute and try again?"
Inside the guide
What you'll walk away with
About ten minutes to read. You can use it tonight.
Is this for you?
Made for everyday fights
This is for you if
You keep having the same fight, things go quiet instead of getting settled, or you never quite know how to come back to each other after it's over.
One honest note
It's written for two people who both feel safe. If you feel afraid of your partner, or there's control, threats or pressure, please reach out to a local support line or counselor first.
We're Axell and Kathy, the couple behind LoveSecurely. We write every guide in plain words, for real moments like the kitchen at 10pm. This one is short on purpose, so you can actually use it the next time a fight winds down.
Keep going. We believe in you.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. No credit card, nothing to buy. You'll also get our emails about relationships, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
How do I get it?
Add your first name and email in the form above. The guide opens as soon as you tap the button.
Does my partner need to read it too?
No. One person can start, and it still works. There's a page made to send your partner if you'd like them in on it.
Can I fill it in on my phone?
Yes. The picker and the repair card are fillable right in the PDF, on your phone or computer.
Is this a replacement for counseling?
No. It's a short, practical guide for everyday fights. If things feel bigger than that, a counselor is a great next step.
